In February 2019, Knox Presbyterian will charter one of the first Scout Troops for girls. We are recruiting Scouts for this unit now, and have planned events to introduce young women to Scouting. If you have a daughter (or know one), please contact the church office so they can refer you to us.
Cub Scout Pack 105
Cub Scouts is a program for boys in grades 1 through 4. Pack 105’s program instills in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law and is non-denominational. Knox provides the group with a place to meet, storage for Pack equipment, and approves Pack 105's adult leaders. Boys participate in age-appropriate programs that develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Cubs participate in the annual Pinewood Derby car race, summer camps, swimming, a bicycle rodeo, an ice cream social and the Blue and Gold Banquet. Cub Scout Pack 105's program consistently earns the yearly Quality Unit Award because of the work by the pack's leadership. Pack 105 needs adults to volunteer time as a guest speaker at a meeting, to help guide the pack's program, be a den leader, or just help a boy who is working on his achievements. It's a great way to help the youth of today be better citizens in the community tomorrow.
Boy Scout Troop 505
Troop 505 has awarded over 141 Scouts their Eagle rank, the highest rank a Boy Scout can attain. The values we and the Boy Scouts of America strive to instill are based on those found in the Scout Oath and Law.
The aim of Scouting is to build character, foster citizenship, and to develop fitness. Troop 505’s program is planned and run by the boys with guidance from the adult leaders. Scouting works best in the out-of-doors and Troop 505 supports a strong outdoor program.
Over the years the Troop has been as big as 100 and as small as 30. We are an active boy run Troop. We have weekly meetings and camp every month during the school year. In summer we crank up the fun. Every boy has the opportunity to attend summer camp. The past few years we have attended Ransburg Scout Reservation in Bloomington, IN, this is an excellent with many opportunities.
Adults are invited to share their skills and interests in order to develop the best possible program for this troop. The troop has over 70 registered Scouts. Adults are needed as merit badge counselors for badges that fall within hobby interests, sports activities or job and career backgrounds.
Troop 505, "The Prairie Troop", was chartered in 1964 and has been a continuously active troop since its inception. Many boys have graduated from the troop with the skills, values and self-confidence necessary to guide them through their entire adult life.
